Rangers defender Connor Goldson has insisted he is happy at Ibrox but wants to focus on each match rather than a new contract – despite entering the last 12 months of his Gers deal.

The defensive colossus also admitted reports in the media he had agreed a new Rangers deal weren’t true as he confirmed talks over a new deal were “progressing”.

Goldson confessed that he is “happy” the club want him to stay but didn’t appear in any rush to commit himself to Rangers beyond the end of the season.

“It wasn’t true the rumours in the press,” Goldson said. “I have a great relationship with the club and speak to Ross Wilson and the manager often. Talks are progressing but not how the media reported. I am happy here and loving every minute at the football club.”

“I need to be purely focused on each match and I know there are discussions going on in the background, the club has made it clear they want me to stay which I am happy with but for now I just want to purely focus on playing games.”

Goldson played every minute of every game last season as the Gers romped to the title and has played in both games so far this term.

The former Brighton star is integral to the Rangers defence and getting him tied down is vital for the Light Blues.

Losing Goldson on a free is simply not something that Rangers can look at as a potential outcome though and it would be foolish in the extreme to allow him to run his contract down before walking away for free at the end of next season.
