Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has only been in charge for a couple of days, but there may already be cause for concern.

Rangers were beaten 3-1 by Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, their first game since losing Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa.

A cobbled-together coaching team took charge but couldn’t book a place in the final.

After more Hampden Park woes, Rangers needed something rousing to raise the spirits – but they didn’t quite get it.

Defender and vice-captain Connor Goldson spoke after the final whistle, suggesting that Rangers had lost some of their hunger.

Last season’s title win means some Rangers players are slacking and taking it easy, at least in the eyes of Goldson.

Rangers fans were far from happy with those comments, suggesting that Goldson and anybody at Ibrox who thinks that way needs to go.

Former Rangers ace and current pundit Brian Laudrup has now offered his view – and a warning to Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Laudrup has told the Daily Mail that he can’t understand any Rangers player being satisfied with just one trophy, believing it goes against everything the club is about.

The Dane added that he is ‘pretty sure’ new boss Van Bronckhorst will have been ‘alarmed’ by those comments mere days into his Rangers reign.

“The idea of one, single trophy satisfying any Rangers player’s hunger for success sits at odds with everything I think the club is about,” said Laudrup. “I really can’t get my head around it. You could argue Connor Goldson was simply being brutally honest when he spoke on Sunday about the edge missing from the team’s performances after last season’s title win.”

“But let’s be clear here, admitting there is a lack of hunger in the dressing room is just about the worst thing you can say at a club like Rangers. It alarmed me. It really did. And I’m pretty sure Giovanni van Bronckhorst felt exactly the same,” he added.
