Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed the Light Blues are “tracking certain individuals” after they were linked with moved for Fashion Sakala and Joey Veerman – but refused to be drawn on the identities of his targets.
Gerrard’s side have reportedly offered Sakala a four-year deal with his Oostende contract up this summer while Dutch media has claimed Rangers are one of a number of clubs chasing Herenveen midfielder Veerman.
The Gers boss insists it isn’t the “right time” to name the players he’s looking at but he didn’t appear to rule out moves for either as he prepares for the Light Blues’ title defence next season.
“There were couple of names a week before and a week before that. If there’s anything to say in terms of ins and outs, I will be the first to tell you,” Gerrard told Rangers TV.
“We are tracking certain individuals to try and make the group stronger when the window opens. I don’t think it’s the right time to mention individual names or targets that we’re looking at.”
After being quizzed directly on the pair, Gerrard’s comments seem to suggest there is some truth to the links with the players.
Whether the Gers can get moves for them over the line or not will be interesting and Rangers definitely don’t look to be wasting their time preparing for next season.
