Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass has indicated Rangers and Watford will have to part with “millions” if they’re serious about signing Lewis Ferguson from the Scottish Premiership outfit, speaking to the Evening Express.
And when he says “millions”, he means more than the amount Watford slapped down a few weeks ago.
The Premier League newcomers were never likely to succeed with an initial £2 million bid for one of Scotland’s rising stars.
And the Hornets were left stung when Aberdeen went so far as to describe their offer as “insulting”.
A warning, then, to anyone planning to make a move for the 21-year-old midfield dynamo between now and the end of August.
Could Lewis Ferguson still arrive at Rangers?
At the end of May, The Scottish Sun reported Steven Gerrard’s Rangers were interested in the turbo-charged nephew of Ibrox legend Barry.
Lewis shot to fame with a dramatic winning goal as Aberdeen knocked the Glasgow giants out of the Scottish League Cup in the semi-finals in October 2018.
But if Ferguson hoped handing in a transfer request would be enough to force Aberdeen’s hand, it seems he was mistaken.
The Dons won’t sell him – or any of their key players – on the cheap.
“Our players will be in demand so it’s not a shock people want to buy our players. However, the valuation has to be right for the club or they stay and play for us until that is met,” says Glass, who recently replaced the long-serving Derek McInnes at Pittodrie.

“If they’re worth millions, you’re looking for millions.
“(Interested clubs) have to know they have to come in at the right level or it doesn’t happen.”
It remains to be seen whether Ferguson is still an option for Rangers after Steven Gerrard’s champions completed the signing of free agent John Lundstram this week.
