English side Reading are celebrating their 150th anniversary this year with regular archive photographs being shared on social media – and when Royals legend and Rangers Academy boss Graeme Murty was pictured alongside another of the “world’s greatest” Rangers fans on Twitter were quick to chime in.
Murty was shown chasing a ball down alongside former Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo and the comments from Reading fans show the high regard Murts is still held in by fans there.
Murty’s time at Rangers has been eventful to say the least with a couple of stints in caretaker charge of the first-team coming before leading the Gers’ under-20s to the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.
Murty was also in charge for Rangers’ debut in the UEFA Youth League, beating Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava before an aggregate defeat by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
The former Scotland international is now Head of Elite Academy Development at Ibrox, a role he took up 11 months ago as part of a reshuffle of the club’s Academy coaching.
As Rangers fans prepare to mark the Gers’ 150th anniversary next year, they were full of praise for the Reading legend as the Royals celebrate theirs.
Here are some of the comments from Rangers fans hailing one of the ‘world’s greatest’ as he faced Ronaldo:
