Rangers defender Jack Simpson has been left out of the Gers’ squad for the Europa League group stage – but there is a place for Fashion Sakala and Juninho Bacuna.

The Light Blues had to submit their final list to UEFA after the transfer window closed with the European governing body updating the list earlier.

Simpson is not the only senior player other than Jermain Defoe to miss out on the 22-man squad list.

Brandon Barker, Andy Firth and Nnamdi Ofoborh are all missing out as well for Rangers.

Clubs can register a maximum of 25 players on the A list but 8 of those must be filled by homegrown players, with Rangers only able to count on Allan McGregor, Robby McCrorie, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Scott Wright.

That has left the Light Blues having to leave three spots empty but that can be supplemented by players on the B list which comprises of younger Academy players.

Nathan Patterson and Stephen Kelly are among those on the B list and are likely the only two on the secondary list to be involved in the group stage.

Rangers kick off their Europa League campaign next week when they face French side Lyon with Sparta Prague and Brondby rounding out Rangers’ group.
