Rangers want Ellis Simms with the Everton striker attracting plenty of interest from other clubs this summer.

The Gers simply have to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer no matter what happens with Alfredo Morelos and his Ibrox future.

Kemar Roofe’s injury problems have been well-noted, Cedric Itten has been sold to Young Boys and Fashion Sakala seems to be more of a winger.

Adding at least one striker has to be a priority for Rangers and they now appear to be eyeing up a move for Everton talent Simms.

Rangers want Ellis Simms

The Express report that Rangers are monitoring the situation of Simms and could now launch a bid to sign the Everton striker this summer.

Middlesbrough are understood to be interested in Simms too as Chris Wilder chases a new striking addition.

The Scottish Sun add that Everton want £500,000 for Simms, a fee that has ultimately priced loan club Hearts out of the race.

Millwall are ‘leading the chase’ for Simms and Rangers may need to move quickly if they don’t want to miss out.

Simms, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan at Hearts and scored seven times in 21 games across all competitions.

The former Manchester City talent has long been highly-regarded at Everton but his pathway to first-team football is a tricky one.

Richarlison’s exit could help him but Simms has only ever played once for Everton’s first team and may now feel that the time is right to move on.

Simms has potential for the future and whilst he wouldn’t be a first-choice striker for Rangers upon signing, he could add depth to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s attack.

What’s interesting is that former Ibrox ace Kenny Miller actually urged Rangers to consider a move for Simms in May.

Miller even suggested that Ellis is similar to Alfredo Morelos in terms of his style of play, even if he isn’t quite as rounded yet.

That’s something Rangers may well agree with as they consider bringing the Everton striker to Goodison Park.
