Rangers allowed Malcolm Ebiowei to leave Ibrox in 2021, and he is now earning huge praise for his performances for Derby County.
Rangers pounced to sign Ebiowei from the Arsenal academy back in 2020 with the youngster deciding to take his chances in Scotland.
Ebiowei didn’t manage to break through into the Rangers first team and didn’t spend all that long in Glasgow.
Having arrived in early 2020, Ebiowei left Rangers in September 2020, meaning he spent just over 18 months at Ibrox.
Derby were more than happy to take a punt on Ebiowei but even they can’t have expected such a big impact.
The 18-year-old forward hit seven goals in seven Under-18 Premier League games and has now started Derby’s last four Championship games.
Playing as a right-sided winger under Wayne Rooney, Ebiowei is showing huge potential and particularly impressed against Coventry City on Saturday.
Rooney praised Ebiowei as ‘excellent’ against Coventry, hailing his ‘incredible’ attitude whilst suggesting it was one of the best performances from a young player he has seen in a long time.
Ebiowei also earned huge praise from EFL analyst George Elek on Quest, raving about the winger.

“I think this is one of the most exciting 90-minute performances from a teenager I’ve seen in the Championship this season and probably longer,” said Elek. “He is an incredibly confident player playing on the right hand side, he looks like an absolute talent,” he added.
Ebiowei has even been named in the Championship Team of the Week, another indication of his quality against Coventry.
It looks like Rangers may just have lost a real talent in Ebiowei, who didn’t even get close to first-team action under Steven Gerrard.
Don’t be surprised to hear a lot more about Ebiowei moving forward, with a number of clubs surely watching his progress at Derby with real interest.
