Coventry City starlet George Thomas has been linked with the likes of Newcastle United, Leicester, Swansea … and Rangers.

Coventry City attacker George Thomas is shaping up to be one of the most in-demand players in this summer’s transfer market.

In fact, it’s almost easier to list the clubs who haven’t been linked with a move for the talented 20-year-old. HITC sources told us on Monday that Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have belatedly joined Leicester City and Swansea in the chase for Thomas.

GetWestLondon added that QPR are now the latest club to express their interest, along with the likes of Newcastle United and Derby County.

Coventry's George Thomas celebrates scoring their second goalFew players have as many suitors as Coventry City’s George Thomas

It’s no surprise that Thomas is in such high demand. The Welsh Under-20 international netted nine goals in 36 games for Coventry, including the winner in the EFL Cup Final, despite the crisis-ridden Sky Blues finishing bottom of League One last season.

An intelligent and technically gifted forward, Thomas is also available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at the Ricoh Arena.

Therefore, if Rangers were able to nab the youngster from under the nose of a raft of English suitors, they would be making a sound investment.

Sky Blues to Royal Blues?

After all, while the Scottish Premiership habitually struggles to hang on to its most highly-rated performers, Rangers would surely make a huge profit on a player they signed for nothing if he fulfilled his potential at Ibrox.

And there’s reason to believe Ibrox could be the logical destination for one of English football’s most in-demand young players.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has demonstrated that age is just a number when choosing his starting XI and the prospect of developing away from the spotlight of the Premier League could prove hugely beneficial in the long run.

Old Firm rivals Celtic may have made a statement of intent beating Tottenham Hotspur and Everton to 19-year-old Ipswich Town prospect Kundai Benyu – but Rangers could equal that by enticing Thomas to Ibrox.
