HITC Sport understands Rangers are to rival Premier League clubs for the Coventry youngster.

Coventry’s George Thomas scores their second goal

Rangers are eyeing a late move for Leicester City and Swansea City target George Thomas of Coventry City, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Thomas is out of contract at Coventry after seeing out his deal at the Ricoh Arena and a number of clubs have been chasing his signature.

Thomas is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in the country after impressing at Coventry last season.

The Wales Under-20 international scored nine goals in 36 appearances for Coventry last season, including the winner in the EFL Trophy final success against Oxford United.

Leicester and Swansea have both expressed an interest in Thomas and they are trying to negotiate a settlement figure for the forward rather than the move going to a tribunal.

Coventry will be due a compensation fee for Thomas as he is under the age of 24, but the fee will be minimal if the player moves to Scotland and Rangers hope that they will boost their chances of landing the player.

Rangers have been busy in the transfer market this summer as they look to rebuild their squad and they are keen to hijack Leicester’s and Swansea’s move for Thomas.
