Rangers star Connor Goldson has admitted he hopes this current crop of Ibrox players can “stick together for a long time” as he dropped a massive hint over his Ibrox future.

The defender is in the final 12 months of his Rangers contract and Gers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is relaxed over the situation – although the same can’t be said for many Rangers fans.

Speaking to Brighton’s website ahead of this afternoon’s friendly clash between the Seagulls and Rangers, Goldson wants to get his hands on more silverware after playing every single minute of last season’s Scottish Premiership triumph.

“I’d always had big dreams,” Goldson said, “But I didn’t know where that would take me.

“Coming to Scotland, success was the aim from the moment I got here. My first conversation with the gaffer was about getting Rangers back into European football and turning the club around.

“I can’t say I didn’t believe that wouldn’t happen, because I wouldn’t have come up here. I believed in the project the gaffer sold me and we have worked hard every day to make sure that it happened. It has worked out, but now we have won we want to carry it on, to win cups as well as league titles.

“The team we have got now is very strong and we showed that by getting to the Europa League last 16 in the last two years, as well as going undefeated in the league as we won the title. Hopefully this group can stick together for a long time and win even more.”

Goldson staying at Ibrox would be great news for Rangers

Keeping the Ibrox colossus in Glasgow for the foreseeable future would be a massive boost for the Light Blues going into the new season.

Goldson is one of – if not the – first name of Gerrard’s teamsheet and keeping him at Ibrox as the Gers look to retain their title is a must.

Replacing the former Brighton star would cost the sort of money that Scottish clubs simply can’t spend and his comments are certainly ones that Rangers fans can take as a positive.

However, until a new deal is announced fans have every reason to be worried.

Once the ink is dry on a new contract that runs beyond the end of the season, Rangers fans will rest a bit easier.
