Rangers ace Calvin Bassey continues to shine and has now earned praise from pundit Pat Nevin after ‘phenomenal’ skill against Hearts.

The Gers went through heartbreak on Wednesday night by losing the Europa League final on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men had to bounce back quickly though with the Scottish Cup final against Hearts coming on Saturday.

There were fears of another cup final nightmare as the game went to extra time but Rangers pull through.

Ryan Jack’s screamer put Rangers ahead before Scott Wright added number two on the counter-attack.

Rangers clinch a first piece of silverware under Van Bronckhorst and have gone some way to exorcise their demons from the Europa League final.

Rangers ace Calvin Bassey continues to shine

One of the star men in Seville was Calvin Bassey, who was simply outstanding despite Rangers eventually losing.

Bassey starred at centre back against Frankfurt with pundit Don Hutchison hailing him for an ‘incredible performance’.

On Saturday, Bassey moved over to left back and was just as impressive once again.

Bassey is hailed for his physical ability, his speed and aggression but he also deserves praise for his technical ability.

Bassey, 22, was a constant threat down the left for Rangers and has once again been hailed.

Pundit Pat Nevin has told BBC Sport (16:10) that it’s obvious just how much confidence Bassey has right now.

One moment against Hearts saw Bassey jink away from three challenges as he again showed his technical quality.

Nevin suggested that such skill from a left back ‘shouldn’t be allowed’, hailing him for such a ‘phenomenal’ piece of play.

“Bassey is clearly a player who is playing with bags of confidence right now,” said Nevin. “He’s got the pace and power to drive down the line all day. Three drag backs in a row from a full-back? That shouldn’t be allowed – that was phenomenal!” he added.

Bassey may have impressed Nevin at left back but we would assume that he will end up back at centre back soon.

Bassey’s displays with Connor Goldson have just been so good that it’s hard to move him away, but his versatility is a welcome boost.
