Rangers defender Calvin Bassey starred against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night, earning huge praise from pundit Don Hutchison.
Rangers dared to dream as they faced yet another Bundesliga side in their Europa League journey.
Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were dumped out in previous rounds but Frankfurt stood in their way of European glory.
The trophy was on the line in Seville and Rangers took the lead with Joe Aribo punishing Tuta’s slip.
Rafael Borre equalised for Frankfurt and then ended up scoring the winning penalty in the eventual shootout.
Aaron Ramsey was the only Rangers player not to score in the shootout as his effort was saved by Kevin Trapp.
Rangers came so, so close to winning the Europa League but it just wasn’t to be as Gers fans head back to Scotland devastated.
Rangers defender Calvin Bassey starred against Eintracht Frankfurt
There were a number of superb performances in the Rangers side but few players stood out like Calvin Bassey.
Bassey was outstanding all night long, racking up tackles, clearances and headers in the Rangers back line.
Bassey was a left back under Steven Gerrard but now looks undroppable as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s left-sided centre back.
The speed and strength of Bassey catches the eye but his reading of the game was superb against Frankfurt too.

At just 22 it looks like Bassey has an enormous future ahead of him; not bad for a player Rangers paid just £230,000 to sign from Leicester City in 2020.
Bassey has been earning praise from all corners after his display on Wednesday night.
Pundit and former Scotland international Don Hutchison has joined in, telling BBC Sport that he felt Bassey had put in an ‘incredible performance’.
Hutchison also noted that Bassey made himself a superstar with that display – and Rangers may just find that a few clubs are interested in Bassey very soon.
“There were so many good performances. Bassey was a giant, a superstar, incredible performance,” said Hutchison.
