Rangers return to action tonight as they face Partick Thistle in their first pre-season friendly of hte summer and Steven Gerrard has confirmed the “majority” of his senior players will be involved tonight at Firhill.
While some of Gerrard’s squad have returned with “niggles” and others have been (or still are) away representing their country, the bulk of Gerrard’s squad returned to training seven days ago.
The Rangers boss admits patience is key in the early stages and confessed he’ll be cautious against the Jags, wrapping “one or two” in cotton wool.
“People are in different places in terms of where they are at from a physical point of view. Some people have had longer rests than others, some have come back with niggles,” Gerrard told Rangers TV.
“It’s important to be patient now and make sure we manoeuvre everyone through week one. The majority will be involved in the first game against Partick Thistle but we’ll be careful with one or two.
“They could play if it was an important game but because it’s game one of pre-season sometimes you take the more cautious approach with one or two and that’s the reason why one or two won’t be seen against Partick.”
Rangers stars need to pick up where they left off with 55
Rangers’ pre-season plans see the Gers also facing Tranmere Rovers, Blackpool and Arsenal ahead of the Light Blues’ title defence getting underway.

With the Gers also having Champions League qualifiers to get through, making sure they start off the season positively is absolutely vital.
The trip to Partick will be a good chance for the Rangers squad to get back to it and pick up where they left off last season.
