Rangers are set to sign Ben Davies with the Liverpool defender closing in on a move to Ibrox as Calvin Bassey’s replacement.
The Gers have reluctantly agreed to sell defender Bassey to Ajax after receiving an offer worth up to €25million (£23million).
That’s huge money for Rangers and a great influx of cash for a player picked up for minimal cash from Leicester City in 2020.
Rangers do though need a replacement; preferably a left-footed defender to serve as a direct successor to Bassey.
Bassey’s move to Ajax isn’t even finalised yet but Rangers seem to have the replacement secured already.
Rangers are set to sign Ben Davies
Fabrizio Romano reports that an agreement is in place between Rangers and Liverpool for the transfer of defender Ben Davies.
It’s stated that Liverpool will be bringing in around £4million for Davies – a nice profit on the low fee paid to Preston North End in January 2021.
Davies will now have to complete all of the formalities – personal terms and medical for instance – but it looks like a move to Rangers is very close.
Davies, 26, came through the ranks at Preston and was somewhat miscast as a left back in his early days.

Alex Neil switched Davies to a left-sided centre back and he became a star at Deepdale, turning in consistently excellent performances.
Quick, a great reader of the game and capable of passing through the lines from the back, Davies isn’t the biggest centre back ever but makes up for it elsewhere.
Davies was snapped up by Liverpool but has never made his first-team debut for the Reds.
Davies spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, helping them reach the Championship playoffs before heading back to Liverpool.
The Reds are now ready to sell Davies and Rangers have moved quickly to secure him as Bassey’s replacement in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s back line.
