Rangers FC attacker Fashion Sakala could leave Ibrox this summer with Auxerre believed to be keen on luring him to France.
The Gers have brought in four attacking players in the last couple of weeks, bolstering Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad.
Antonio Colak is in as Rangers’ new striker whilst Tom Lawrence, Malik Tillman and Rabbi Matondo will operate out wide or in attacking midfield roles.
Those signings were absolutely vital for Rangers as they look to challenge Celtic again, and it may lead to an exit in the coming weeks.
Rangers attacker Fashion Sakala could leave Ibrox
One man who could be pushed out is Sakala – who only joined from Oostende last summer.
Rangers pounced to sign Sakala on a free transfer in 2021 after seeing him hit 16 goals in 34 outings during his final season with Oostende.
The Gers had high hopes for Sakala but it’s fair to say that the results were mixed.
12 goals in 50 games wasn’t a terrible return but Sakala blew hot and cold; sometimes his pace would terrify defenders and cause mayhem, sometimes he just had no end product.
With so many attacking players now coming in, it’s hard to see Sakala playing a starting role for Rangers next season.
Reports from Homme du Match in France earlier this month suggested that Auxerre were interested in signing Sakala this summer.
That has seemingly gone quiet in recent weeks but with Rangers making their incoming deals, the rumour is returning again.
Former Rangers goalkeeper Lionel Charbonnier – who joined the club from Auxerre back in 1998 – has taken to Twitter to comment on Sakala.
Charbonnier, who played 18 league games for Rangers in a three-year stint at Ibrox, claims that Sakala will be joining Auxerre this summer.
Charbonnier added that he has just heard about the move and whilst nothing is done, he told fans to ‘wait and see’, with an apparent confidence that the deal will be done.
