Rangers look to have won the row over whether Ibrox star Ianis Hagi will represent Romania at this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo – with the Ibrox number 7 not getting his wish to take part in the Games.

The Gers and the Romanian FA were at odds over Hagi’s inclusion after he was named in their preliminary squad for the Tokyo Games, setting up a club v country clash with the Olympics clashing with Rangers’ return to the Champions League.
Hagi had publicly spoken of his wish to head to Japan and compete in the Olympics however after he missed his country’s warm-up games earlier this month, it seems certain that he’ll now miss out.
Hagi was instead with the Romanian senior squad as they faced England and Georgia in pre-Euro 2020 friendlies before heading off on his summer break.
While Romania’s squad for the Olympic hasn’t been officially confirmed, Hagi’s absence from the training camp in Spain points towards him missing the 18-man squad.
As the Olympics aren’t an official FIFA tournament, clubs are under no obligation to release players for it.
With Rangers due to face a Champions League Third Qualifying Round tie as Romania aim for Olympic Gold, Hagi likely won’t get to strut his stuff against New Zealand, South Korea and Honduras.

Bans for Kemar Roofe and Glen Kamara has made a tough task for Rangers even harder so it is noo surprise the Gers want Hagi to stay in Scotland rather than playing at the Olympics.
