Airdrieonian’s star Thomas Robert is set to head on trial with Premier League side Burnley as he edges closer to a Diamonds exit – and putting and end to links with potential moves to Rangers or Celtic.

Robert, who spent time on trial with Celtic last season, is heading to Lancashire to spend time training with the Clarets ahead of a potential transfer.
Airdrie pulled off the surprise signing of Robert last summer when he turned down the chance to stay with Montpellier to leave in search of first-team football.
The Frenchman showed real glimpses of talent during his time in League One but a distinct lack of fitness meant he only played the full 90 minutes four times over the season.
Rangers and Celtic both looked at moves for the French ace
His trial stint at Celtic didn’t do enough to earn him an offer from the Parkhead side and Rangers have taken a look at him previously but also appear to have turned their attentions elsewhere.
Having left Montpellier to get regular games, a move to Burnley is going to see Robert play a very limited amount of games so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he returns to Airdrie to see out the final year of his contract.

The son of Newcastle legend Laurent Robert, Thomas clearly can play at a higher level than the third tier of Scottish football – but it seems unlikley he’ll get the minutes he wants if he was to move to a Premier League club like Burnley.
