Pete O’Rourke has claimed on The Football Terrace that it is Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana who is behind the Gunners’ push for Aaron Ramsdale.

The well-known and well-respected journalist, who has over 99,000 followers on Twitter, has said that Arsenal are ready to complete a deal for Sheffield United goalkeeper Ramsdale.

O’Rourke has added that it is the Arsenal goalkeeping coach, Cana, 45, who is really pushing for the deal.

Ramdale, 23, is at the top of Cana’s list.

O’Rourke said on The Football Terrace, as transcribed by Afcstuff: “We all know Arsenal have made these two bids which have been rejected. I fully expect them to come back with another bid, probably not as much as £30m, probably £25m rising to £30m with add-ons. Arsenal are really keen to do this deal.

“From what I’m hearing, it’s the Arsenal goalkeeping coach who is really pushing this deal. He’s put Ramsdale on the top of his list, he wants him in rather than other goalkeeping targets. For that reason, I think this deal will get done.”

Would Ramsdale make Arsenal better?

Yes.

Ramdale is a very good goalkeeper who did well for the Blades in the Premier League last season.

True, United got relegated, but the 23-year-old played well between the posts and has been praised by new Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

However, Ramsdale would be an expensive signing, and you have to ask whether Arsenal need to bring in a £30 million player this summer to play as a back-up goalkeeper.

The Guardian reported last week that United want £30 million including add-ons for Ramsdale.

Now, Bernd Leno is the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal.

Arteta actually let Emiliano Martinez leave for Aston Villa last summer to keep Leno as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Are Arsenal planning to sell Leno this summer so that Ramsdale can take his place in the starting lineup?
