Warren Barton has said on talkSPORT that he wants the new Newcastle United owners to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

The former Newcastle defender, who is also a fan of the club, believes that Sterling is unhappy at City.

The pundit has said that the new Newcastle owners should make a move for the former Liverpool star, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder and earns £300,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.

As announced on Newcastle’s official website today, an investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, has competed the takeover of Newcastle.

Barton said on talkSPORT: “You’ve got to strike while the iron’s hot, you’ve got to look, [Raheem] Sterling, not happy, not playing at Man City, come and join us.”

Raheem Sterling to Newcastle United?

Sterling is struggling for playing time at City at the moment and has already been linked with another Premier League club, Arsenal.

The City no. 7 has made two starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League, and has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Champions League so far this season.

It is really hard to see defending Premier League champions City sell the 26-year-old in the middle of the season.

After all, City manager Pep Guardiola needs a strong squad to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season.

However, next summer anything is possible.

Newcastle will have grand plans under new owners, and Sterling could be tempted by the prospect of being a leading figure in a brand new project.
