Darren Bent has claimed that Aston Villa are showing serious ‘ambition’ if they sign Yves Bissouma, as he told talkSPORT.

The former striker thinks Bissouma is a ‘top player’, who is needed at Manchester United and good enough to play for a club like Liverpool.

Aston Villa have already showcased their power by bringing ex-Liverpool man, Philippe Coutinho, to the club on a loan deal.

And Steven Gerrard is seemingly showcasing his pulling power once more because it seems as though they now want to add Bissouma to their ranks.

The Brighton midfielder is one of the best defensive-minded midfielders in the Premier League and he could rightfully put his name next to the likes of Rodri, N’Golo Kante, Fabinho and Declan Rice.

Added with Coutinho, Bent thinks if Villa land Bissouma, then they have to think about finishing in the top eight ‘minimum’.

“Manchester United are crying out for that type of position,” said Bent. “Liverpool, with Fabinho, he is getting on with age, he could fit into there.

“I think he’s a top player, Bissouma, so it doesn’t surprise me.

“But this, again, shows the ambition of Aston Villa if they go for Bissouma. Lucas Digne. Coutinho.

“You think if they add Bissouma and Digne, then top eight has got to be the minimum, I think.”

Whilst the signing of Coutinho has wowed many and the possible arrival of Digne, the Bissouma one might just be the best of the lot.

The Brighton midfielder is putting in performances that make him worthy of joining a team in Europe right now.

Villa aren’t in that position, of course, but they hope, possible signings like the one above, can get them towards those top six positions.

This is one to look out for, and if those in the Villa boardroom can get anything done, then it would send out a serious sign of intent to their rivals.
