According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa are interested in signing Yves Bissouma from Brighton, after bringing Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Well, it seems Aston Villa have wasted no time whatsoever in moving onto their next transfer target of the January window.
Sky Sports believe Bissouma – who Brighton paid £15m for – is now in Steven Gerrard’s sights, although it won’t be easy to sign him.
The 25-year-old is currently away with Mali for the Africa Cup of Nations, so it will be difficult to arrange certain parts of the deal, such as a medical.
Additionally, Graham Potter recently said that he expects all his players to be at the Amex Stadium after Deadline Day, so it’s safe to say he isn’t anticipating any departures.
Bissouma is one of Brighton’s best players, and has made 14 Premier League appearances so far this season.
Yves Bissouma could give Aston Villa a dream midfield

If the Villans can lure the 18-cap Mali international to Villa Park, Gerrard would arguably have the best midfield outside the top six.
Aston Villa already have John McGinn in their ranks, who is one of the best players in the Premier League in our view.
With the Scotland international alongside Bissouma – who has made 100 Premier League appearances – and Coutinho slightly ahead of them in a midfield triangle, the Villans would strike fear into their opponents.

Simply put, it’s a extremely well-rounded midfield trio, with very few weaknesses – if any.
It will be seriously tough to do a deal for Bissouma now, although if Aston Villa pull it off, it would arguably be more impressive than the signing of Coutinho.
