Former Fiorentina defender Lorenzo Amoruso believes Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are the ‘only’ clubs capable of signing Serie A star Dusan Vlahovic, speaking to RTV38

Vlahovic may have turned down the chance to extend his stay at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. But do not make the mistake in assuming Fiorentina will be forced to cash in on their star striker next month.

The self-proclaimed ‘new Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ is under contract for another two years. And it will take a sizeable fee to lure Vlahovic away from Florence during the January transfer window.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, Arsenal reached an initial agreement with Fiorentina in November over a deal that would have seen the former Partizan Belgrade youngster move to the Emirates for £68 million.

Vlahovic, however, is not quite as keen on Arsenal as they are on him.

But if Tottenham or Manchester City are planning to make an offer of their own, they will have no choice but to at least match the bid Arsenal slapped down.

Is Dusan Vlahovic joining Spurs or Man City?

“Fiorentina are one of the few teams not to have their accounts in the red,” points out Amoruso, the one-time Blackburn Rovers and Rangers ace who won the Coppa Italia with La Viola in 1996 (ViolaNews).

“In these conditions, City and Tottenham are the only two who can sign him now.

“He doesn’t want to leave in January. (But) the auction will go off anyway in the summer as English teams have no problem offering insane figures.”

Man City have been tipped to renew their interest in Tottenham talisman Harry Kane next year. Vlahovic, however, is younger, cheaper and in far better form than Spurs’ number ten.

He’s scored 17 goals in 18 games this season and is currently leading the race for the Capocannoniere trophy.

Tottenham, meanwhile, opened talks with Vlahovic a month ago. Though it remains to be seen if Daniel Levy, hardly the most generous of chairmen, is willing to part with a club-record fee in the COVID-19 era.
