Liverpool-mad pundit Jose Enrique has played down Adam Lallana’s comments about Brighton and Hove Albion losing Leandro Trossard to Arsenal during the January transfer window, as he posted on Instagram.

Whilst the 28-year-old served Brighton very well, especially under Graham Potter, it didn’t end in a positive fashion prior to him signing on the dotted line for Mikel Arteta’s men.

That includes the versatile forward not training during his last few days at the club and seemingly having a falling out with the club’s new manager, Roberto De Zerbi.

Trossard was Brighton’s top-scorer this season, but his absence didn’t affect the side because they picked up a number of big wins without him, including beating Liverpool on home soil, which was touched upon by Lallana.

Those comments by the former England midfielder was met with mixed responses: “You only need to look at the last three games without him. I think it’s been 5-1, 4-1 and 3-0. Players can leave Brighton but we are good enough without them.”

But former Premier League left-back Enrique thinks it wasn’t a case of ‘shots fired’, he responded to Lallana’s claims in the comments section of Football Joe’s IG post.

“I believe he didn’t mean it in that way,” said Enrique. “It’s just that the players go and the clubs are still there. Business-wise, Brighton does it really well with the signing of players, so I am sure they will be fine.”

CAN TROSSARD MAKE AN IMPACT?

The Belgium international has seven Premier League goals this season. If the £21 million signing (BBC Sport) can hit five-eight Premier League goals for his new club from now until the end of the season, then it might prove to be the difference.

It needs to be remembered that, unless Arteta changes his mind, Trossard won’t be starting for the first few weeks because Gabriel Martinelli is doing the business out on the left.

Therefore, if Trossard can pick out winning moments here and there, then it could just prove to be an outstanding purchase.
