Pundit Craig Burley has said that instead of appointing Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Hotspur should hire Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.
The 36-year-old manager has been linked with the Spurs job, as it seems like only a matter of time until Antonio Conte’s spell at the club comes to an end.
On ESPN, the vocal pundit explained why he thinks that Tottenham Hotspur should go the Vincent Kompany route instead of appointing Mauricio Pochettino.
Pundit Craig Burley explains why Tottenham should hire Kompany instead of Pochettino
Danny Rose has admitted that he would ‘love’ to see the Argentine back in N17, while Paul Merson has claimed the same, as he has been there and done that under dire circumstances as well.
However, pundit Craig Burnley has put forward his take on why Vincent Kompany would be a better hire for Tottenham now than Mauricio Pochettino.
“I don’t think going back to Pochettino’s a good move. Somebody like, I know it’s early, but Vincent Kompany has done an amazing job.”

“Everybody’s talking about him going to Man City. There’s no sign of Guardiola leaving there in the next couple of years. He’s signed a new contract. But not only does Kompany demand respect, the style and the complete 360 that he’s been able to achieve at Burnley, in terms of the way they play and he’s been successful with it – because they’re going to be promoted as champions, they play great football as well. And I think that’s one of the things with Tottenham.”
Kompany would be a superb appointment
As Craig Burley has said, the way Vincent Kompany has incorporated a complete shift in Burnley’s playing style has been remarkable and considering he employs ‘juego de posición’, the biggest trend in football, Tottenham should consider him as an option perhaps even instead of Mauricio Pochettino.
This Spurs side is far worse than the team under the former PSG boss, who at least had tools such as Christian Eriksen as well as Son Heung-min, Toby Alderweireld, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose at his disposal.
Starting afresh may be a smart way to go and that too, with a fresh face through the door that could get fans excited as the current mood within the fans is one associated with hopelessness.
