The January transfer window is fast approaching, and for Newcastle United, the Magpies are expected to make some signings that could take Eddie Howe’s side to an even higher level.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that wingers will be the position that Newcastle will focus on the most during the winter market, even with Allan Saint-Maximin set to return from injury and Miguel Almiron enjoying his best run of form ever in his Premier League career.

Despite Newcastle flying high in the standings, signing a winger would be a good move for the Toon in January. And thankfully for supporters, links have been flying all over the place for wide-attackers the northeast side could bring the St. James Park in the coming weeks.

With an unlimited pool of money to make said-signings from their PIF owners, Newcastle could make another huge splash in the market in January, and here are five wingers Howe could sign in 2023 to take the Magpies to the next level.

Leandro Trossard

As mentioned, Newcastle have been seemingly linked with every winger under the sun in recent weeks, and Leandro Trossard has been one name who has popped up quite a bit, with the Northern Echo reporting that the Brighton & Hove Albion star is on the Magpies radar.

With the Belgian international’s contract expiring at the end of this season and the forward enjoying arguably his best spell of form ever in the Premier League, similarly to Almiron, signing Trossard makes quite a bit of sense for Newcastle, who could be in favour of bringing in a winger who is at the peak of their powers.

Nicolas Jackson

One of the more recent links to Newcastle, Nicolas Jackson is a talent who looks bound for the Premier League in 2023, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Toon, Aston Villa and Everton are all interested in signing the Villarreal star in the January window.

21-years-old and already a regular for the La Liga giants, Jackson’s rise in recent months has been nothing short of extraordinary, and whilst Villa seem to be the favourites to land the youngster given the impending arrival of Unai Emery, Newcastle should consider themselves well in the race to land the Senegalese prospect.

Gustav Isaksen

Denmark has proven to be quite the breeding ground in recent years for exciting young talents, and Gustav Isaksen is quickly emerging as one of the most promising around, with CalcioMercato reporting that Newcastle will challenge the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan to sign the 21-year-old.

With a price tag of £17m, a record valuation for a Danish Superliga player, the race to sign Isaksen could quickly turn ugly if Newcastle are to make a big move for the versatile winger. Yet given the project Howe is leading,t he Dane himself might be open to moving to the northeast ahead of a traditional big club in January.

Arnaut Danjuma

Another superstar on Villarreal’s books, Arnaut Danjuma is one of the more established names on this list, with the former AFC Bournemouth star last year enjoying a breakout year in La Liga and in the UEFA Champions League as the Netherlands star bagged 16 goals in all competitions.

Whilst the winger’s form has been below par this season, CalcioMercatoWeb have reported that Newcastle are chasing the forward. And given Danjuma’s links with Howe, there’s a good argument to be made that the 25-year-old is the most realistic target the Magpies could land in January.

Christian Pulisic

Chelsea’s record of big-money signings failing to work out is almost laughable at this point, and there’s a growing sense that Christian Pulisic will be the next figure to leave Stamford Bridge following a £58m move to west London from Borussia Dortmund. Yet Newcastle could prove to be an ideal destination for the American.

With CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs stating that the winger himself could be tempted to join Newcastle, Pulisic might easily become the marquee signing that every Toon supporter has been waiting for ever since PIF’s takeover of the club last year. And with Chelsea open to a sale, a move could already be in the pipeline.
