PSG are reportedly set to sign rumoured Liverpool target Carlos Soler, with the French giants agreeing to a deal with Valencia for the Spanish midfielder.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 1 champions have agreed a deal worth €21m (£18m) for the Spanish international, with Soler set to become PSG’s final signing of the summer transfer window after a frantic few months for the French side under new manager Christophe Galtier.

Liverpool had been reportedly interested in Soler this summer with Jurgen Klopp recently revealing that the Reds will look to sign a midfielder in the final days of the market with the Premier League side currently lacking in numbers in the position, with Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all out on the injury table.

Although Liverpool won a club-record 9-0 against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, fans are hopeful that the Merseyside giants can bring in one new fresh face before the closure of the window, and Soler could have been the perfect player to fix Klopp’s midfield problems with the squad.

A silky playmaker who enjoys driving forward, Soler would have added creativity and attacking intent to the Liverpool midfield had Klopp made a move to sign the Valencia captain, however, it is PSG who have now won the race for the 25-year-old Spaniard.

Indeed, Liverpool are running out of time to sign a midfielder this summer, and with Soler heading to PSG, options are limited as to who the Reds can even target with just two days remaining, with a big move needed to motivate supporters following their 9-0 win.

Liverpool’s need for depth in the midfield is evident for all to see, and whilst Soler would have been a pricey option, the Spaniard would have been the perfect player to solve the Reds’ issues in the squad, yet as we now know, PSG have stormed ahead to sign the Valencia star.

Should Liverpool fail to sign a midfielder, missing out on Soler will be something Klopp could regret later in the season should the midfielder flourish for PSG, something that seems very likely given the 25-year-old’s incredibly attractive style of play.
