Ivan Perisic has told Tottenham transfer target Denzel Dumfries that he is ‘proud’ of the right-sided wing-back after the Netherlands reached the quarter-finals of the Qatar World Cup, as he posted on his Instagram story.

At Euro 2020, Dumfries was one of his nation’s standout players and on football’s biggest stage he is stepping up again – it’s no surprise Antonio Conte wants him at Tottenham.

Against the USA, he cooked on the right wing, which would have had a certain Conte purring with delight because it’s exactly what he is looking for from the likes of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty at Hotspur Way.

The intelligence of understanding when to push forward, his atheism on the ball, composure, quality in the final third and pace to dart past opponents.

On Saturday, the 26-year-old supplied two assists and scored as the Netherlands beat USA 3-1 and booked their quarter-final ticket against Lionel Messi-inspired, Argentina.

The World Cup always elevates the status of players and that’s what’s happening with Dumfries right now… and he’s not stepping yet – Perisic told him on his IG story ‘proud of you, brate!’.

TOTTENHAM INTERESTED IN DUMFRIES?

Tottenham are stacked in that right-sided wing-back department – only in the summer, they signed Djed Spence.

But it seems as though Conte isn’t a fan of the player because he has only played 26 minutes since his move from Middlesbrough.

Added to that, Emerson Royal always seems to be putting his own fans into a nervous wreck, whilst Matt Doherty has faired better, but the north London club can go up a few levels than the Republic of Ireland international.
