Newcastle United supporters have taken to Twitter to react to transfer news about Pontus Jansson.

The relegation-threatened Magpies need to bolster their defence in January.

Eddie Howe’s side are 19th in the Premier League standings and three points adrift of safety.

Newcastle do have a genuine shot at escaping relegation, but recruitment during the winter is going to be absolutely massive for the Tyneside club.

According to The Guardian, Jansson of Brentford is one player on Howe’s shopping list ahead of the transfer window.

Here’s how Magpies supporters reacted to this speculation on Twitter:

Interestingly, the big Sweden international has already come to Newcastle’s rescue this season – and it was as recently as Friday night.

Jansson scored an 84th-minute equaliser in Brentford’s visit of Watford, with Thomas Frank’s outfit going on to snatch victory in stoppage time.

Had Watford won that game, the Hornets – who are 17th in the Premier League table – would’ve gone six points clear of Newcastle.

As a result of Jansson’s intervention, the gap is still only three points and it’s impossible to understate just what a massive difference that equaliser – and subsequent winner – could be for the St James’s Park club come May.

Of course, the former Leeds United defender didn’t score with the knowledge that it would’ve helped the Magpies, who ultimately lost 4-0 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

But Jansson has already been Newcastle’s saviour once this season and could he be saving them every single week, in a black and white jersey? Well, only time will tell.
