Everton and Newcastle United have joined Leicester City in the fight to sign Brentford defender Pontus Jansson with his contract situation up in the air.
That’s according to The Guardian, who claim that Jansson is attracting major Premier League interest.
Jansson is out of contract at the end of the season. Brentford do though have an option to extend Jansson’s deal by another year.
The Swede is in demand though and Brentford could be confronted by a number of bids come January.
Selling Jansson in the middle of the season would be disastrous for Brentford, but Newcastle have cash and own’t be afraid to spent it.
With Jansson turning 31 in February, you also have to question whether this is the right time to sell.
Everton and Newcastle target Jansson profiled
Jansson was a star in his native Sweden with Malmo, but struggled for playing time at Torino.
The giant centre back headed on loan to Leeds in 2016, turning the move permanent a year later.
Jansson was a fan favourite at Elland Road but Marcelo Bielsa allowed him to leave for Brentford in 2019.

Now club captain at Brentford, Jansson is a vital part of Thomas Frank’s side.
Everton have been shaky defensively of late and may well see Yerry Mina leave in the summer. Jansson fits what Rafael Benitez has been targeting in terms of experienced players, but doesn’t offer much resale value.
Newcastle simply need defensive reinforcements as soon as possible. Jansson can step right in and help a struggling Newcastle side, but the price may be large for a player in his 30’s.
Jansson’s situation is now one to keep close tabs on, with Everton and Newcastle hoping to snap him up.
