Lisandro Martinez has posted on Cristian Romero’s Instagram ‘pride’ after the Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur duo progressed to the knockout stages of the World Cup with Argentina following their 2-0 win over Poland.
Heading to Qatar, the South American giants started as one of the big pre-tournament favourites.
Then along came Saudi Arabia and provided the blow of all blows by beating them for their opening game at the tournament to leave Lionel Scaloni’s men reeling.

But, since then, Argentina have picked themselves up, including picking up two wins from two – added with two clean sheets – to book their ticket to the last 16.
Romero started against the Saudis, then came off the bench for the win against Mexico and was then brought back into the XI against Poland yesterday.
After those results, Tottenham’s hard-hitting defender posted on his Instagram that he is ‘proud’ of this team and they are ‘all together’, with Lisandro Martinez praising his teammate in the comments section.
ARGENTINA WARMING UP
Argentina are starting to cook and look much better in this tournament after a pretty nervy start. The nerves seem to be going away and they are starting to play like Copa America winners.
There is still a long way to go to match the elite teams of the competition, but if they continue to climb, then they might hit the right notes at the right time.
It will be interesting who plays in defence during the knockout stages because Romero started against the Saudis, then Martinez came in, before the Tottenham man replaced him again against Poland.
