Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Football London revealed that Zech Medley is close to joining K.V. Oostende.

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old has previously spent time on loan with Gillingham and Kilmarnock.

However, his switch to the Belgian Pro League will be a permanent transfer, bringing an end to his five-year stay at Arsenal.

It comes despite the fact Mikel Arteta wants to keep him at the Emirates Stadium, according to Football London.

Against his manager’s wishes, the youngster has decided to seek first-team chances elsewhere in Belgium’s top-flight.

Medley arrived from Chelsea in 2016, and has made three appearances for Arsenal.

The towering centre-back has made two outings in the Europa League, and one in the FA Cup.

Now, he’s set for his first taste of regular, first-team action.

Win-win for Arsenal

With so many centre-backs already at Arsenal, it didn’t feel like Medley was going to get many opportunities anytime soon.

However, Arteta and Edu have been clever, and negotiated a first option on the defender if he ever leaves K.V. Oostende.

In that respect, its’s effectively a glorified loan move, in which Medley can actually settle down somewhere and focus on his career.

If he fulfils his potential and becomes a star, Arsenal have a good chance of getting him back, making it a win-win for the Gunners.

He definitely has potential. One fan even described him as being ‘better than Sokratis‘ at one point.

Arsenal will receive a fee for Medley. However, the exact amount is unknown.

Chris Wheatley – who revealed the news – estimates that Arsenal will earn under £200,000 from his departure.
