Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu says he turned down a £20 million bid from Manchester City for Abdulkadir Omur while telling Hurriyet that no Premier League clubs have come calling yet for Ugurcan Cakir.

As the celebrations die down on the banks of the Black Sea, a Trabzonspor side still basking in the glory of their first Super Lig title since the 1980s will switch their focus to the summer window.

Specifically, keeping this generation-defining, medal-wearing squad of living legends together.

Talismanic captain and miracle-working goalkeeper Cakir has already been linked with big-money moves to Leeds and Newcastle United.

Omur, a silky attacking midfielder who’s often been likened to Lionel Messi due to his lavish left peg and diminutive frame, is another player with plenty of admirers in some of Europe’s major leagues.

Omur provided seven goals and four assists in 2021/22 – the most prolific campaign of his career.

But, if things had worked out differently, the fleet-footed might have been tasting domestic glory in England instead. Manchester City made a bid of £20 million back in 2019. One Trabzonspor opted to reject after selling on Yusuf Yazici to Lille only 72 hours earlier.

Could Manchester City return one day for Abdulkadir Omur?

“It is my regret that I refused a 23 million euro offer from Manchester City for Abdulkadir Omur,” explains Agaoglu. “(The bid) came three days after I sold Yusuf.”

Cakir, one of the most underrated shot-stoppers on the continent, appears to have replaced the now-24-year-old Omur as Trabzonspor’s most prized asset.

And while the goalkeeper has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League, Agaoglu insists that no offers have arrived just yet for his penalty-saving specialist.

“I’m in Favor of Ugurcan staying in the team. At the moment, the only official offer from abroad has come for (centre-back) Ahmetcan Kaplan,” the president says.

The £17 million-rated Cakir wants a new challenge after achieving a lifelong dream at title-winners Trabzonspor.

When discussing about a potential move to Elland Road, however, his brother and agent insisted that he has ‘not received an offer from Leeds so far’.
