Liverpool will return to action on Monday evening when they take on Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.

The defending champions will head into the match against the Saints on the back of a goalless draw with Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the league.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could make a couple of changes to the team that started against the Magpies.

Curtis Jones started against Newcastle, but the 19-year-old midfielder – described as “phenomenal” by former Arsenal star Paul Merson on Sky Sports News (2:45pm, January 2, 2021) – is likely to be dropped in favour of Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum.

James Milner was replaced by fit-again Thiago in the 73rd minute, with Klopp telling Liverpool’s official website that the 2020 summer signing from Bayern Munich was “brilliant”.

Thiago could start against Southampton, his first in all competitions since October 17, 2020, according to WhoScored.

This is how Liverpool could line up against Southampton:

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Nathaniel Phillips, Fabinho, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane
