Aston Villa face the second of three league games in six days at Preston.

Steve Bruce manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Birmingham City and Aston Villa at St Andrews on October 29, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Steve Bruce could look to freshen up his Aston Villa side at Preston on Wednesday – the second of three games in six days for the Villans.

One change could be enforced, with Jonathan Kodjia continuing to be assessed by Villa’s medical team, after the striker sustained an ankle injury in Sunday’s derby draw with Birmingham City.

Assuming Kodjia cannot play, his spot will likely be seized by one of Keinan Davis or Scott Hogan, with the former a strong favourite.

Elsewhere, Mile Jedinak is pushing for a first start since early September after his return as a substitute at St Andrew’s, but may have to dislodge one of Glenn Whelan – Sunday’s man of the match – or Conor Hourihane – Villa’s second top scorer with five this season, unless the latter is pushed further forward.

Several Villa fans have called for Jedinak to start against Preston, with young midfielder Callum O’Hare another popular choice after his hat-trick for the under-23s on Monday.

Henri Lansbury and Jack Grealish also played in that game, although neither are likely to feature at Deepdale, while striker Gabriel Agbonlahor remains sidelined.
