Aston Villa could be about to pull off a signing that believes he ‘has it all’ this summer which would be a big boost for Unai Emery.

Despite finishing in the Champions League places last season under Unai Emery, Aston Villa have already been hampered in the transfer market.

Midfielder Douglas Luiz has departed as he completed a move to Italian giants Juventus with Enzo Barrenchea and Samuel Iling-Junior moving in the other direction.

Whilst this will be a big loss for the Villains, it appears the club are now closing in on a player who believes he ‘has it all’.

Villa closing in on key addition of Onana

HITC has reported that Villa are closing in on midfielder Amadou Onana with the club putting together a total package worth £50 million.

The Belgian midfielder had been trying to engineer a move away from Goodison Park with intermediaries attempting to get a deal done for the 22-year-old at around £50 million.

Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest in the former LOSC Lille midfielder but it is Villa who appear to be closing in on a deal.

With Luiz departing Villa Park, a replacement was certainly needed and Onana would offer the midfield a more physical presence alongside Scotland’s John McGinn.

Onana featured in 30 Premier League games for The Toffees last season but scored just two times for the club as they narrowly avoided relegation.

Signing of Onana could be key for Aston Villa

Onana could well turn out to be an upgrade on Luiz with the Belgian proving at Euro 2024 that he can be relied upon as the deepest midfielder.

In an interview with The Athletic in 2023, Onana believed that he ‘had it all’ and this all around ability that he offers could well be vital for the club.

Current Portugual manager Roberto Martinez once labelled the Belgian midfielder as ‘Everton’s metronome’ and a player with a ‘unique profile’.

Raising the physical ability of the team will be key for Villa and with the club preparing for their first season in the Champions League in the Premier League era, the signing of Onana could be the key difference.
