HITC sources have confirmed that Aston Villa are in talks to sign a replacement for Douglas Luiz following the midfielder’s departure from the club.

Despite finishing in the Champions League places, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have already lost one key player this summer.

Former Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz, who formed a brilliant partnership with John McGinn for the Villains last season, has departed the club.

Juventus have completed the signing of the midfielder with promising English winger Samuel Iling-Junior and Argentine midfielder Enzo Barrenchea moving in the other direction.

Despite the loss of Luiz, it appears the club have settled on a replacement.

Aston Villa identify Douglas Luiz replacement

Sources have confirmed to HITC that the Midlands club are in talks with Everton over the signing of Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana.

HITC can confirm that the Belgian midfielder was the subject of a bid from the Saudi Pro League this week which has seen Villa step up their efforts to land him.

We had reported last month that the Toffees were willing to sell the Belgian midfielder with a fee in the region of £50 million enough to land the former Lille midfielder.

As mentioned, Villa have been looking at a long-term replacement for Luiz who they sold to Juventus and Onana has emerged as that man.

Everton were understood to be looking to shift the Belgian midfielder with intermediaries working on a potential exit for the 22-year-old.

Villa make offer for Amadou Onana

Sources have confirmed to HITC that Villa’s sporting director Monchi has put together a package of around £50 million, which Everton wanted for the midfielder, this summer.

Former Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who led Portugal to a Euro 2024 quarter-final, has labelled the midfielder as ‘very exciting’.

HITC sources can also confirm that Manchester United and Arsenal were offered the chance to sign the Belgian midfielder but both sides are understood to have passed up the opportunity but it now appears he is heading to Villa Park.
