According to Lyall Thomas, Tottenham told their transfer targets over the summer that they think they could soon leapfrog Liverpool and Manchester City.
Tottenham looking to usurp Liverpool & Manchester City
Well, there is plenty of ambition coming from Spurs.
Thomas – a journalist for Sky Sports – believes the north Londoners sense an opportunity to usurp the Reds and the Citizens, who have dominated English football for the last five years.
Thomas adds that Tottenham are expecting one of their Premier League rivals to undergo a transitional period, and mentions that we are probably already seeing exactly that happen to Liverpool.
The Reds currently sit seventh in the Premier League after losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest earlier today.

After years of stinginess under Daniel Levy, it seems as if Antonio Conte has forced the 60-year-old to show some ambition.
The Telegraph believe the Italian is demanding assurances over spending in the transfer market before signing a new contract, as he aims to bridge the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.
As things stand, Conte’s current terms expire in July.
Tottenham can definitely leapfrog Liverpool
Spurs are still yet to match Liverpool in regards to winning the Premier League and the Champions League, although the current campaign suggests the tide is changing.
Liverpool have severely underinvested in their squad, to the point where Jürgen Klopp is still relying on James Milner to start at the age of 36.

As aforesaid, it has left them seventh in the table, whereas Tottenham find themselves third – just four points off the top of the table – after showing intent with the £60m signing of Richarlison, a £25m move for Yves Bissouma, and the £42.5m capture of Cristian Romero.
Manchester City and Erling Haaland will be far tougher for Spurs to catch up with, but in terms of Liverpool, the Reds already find themselves slipping behind Tottenham.
