Chelsea could potentially dictate how successful Newcastle United are with regards to one transfer target.
The Magpies are interested in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison this summer.
According to Sky Sports in early August, Newcastle failed with a £50 million offer for the England international, whom the Foxes value at around £60 million.
It remains to be seen if the St James’s Park outfit return with an offer closer to City’s valuation.
But Chelsea could potentially ruin Newcastle’s prospects of signing him this summer.
That’s because the West Londoners are keen on bringing Wesley Fofana to Stamford Bridge and after the Frenchman was left out of the squad by Brendan Rodgers on Saturday, well let’s just say an £80 million departure is looking on the cards.
This impacts Eddie Howe and Saudi Public Investment Fund because is Rodgers really going to sell two of his best players with only 10 days left in the transfer window to replace them?
Fofana to Chelsea is a lot closer to materialising than Maddison to Newcastle.
And unfortunately for the latter, it seems unlikely that the King Power Stadium outfit will sanction two major-money departures between now and the window shutting.
The truth is, Newcastle had their chance to sign Maddison and an additional £10 million would’ve seen him move to Tyneside.
However, United have dithered slightly, perhaps with good reason because £60 million is a massive amount of money, but that reluctance could well cost them a brilliant footballer until January at the earliest.
