Postecoglou unsure whether £43m Spurs player can face Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou says he isn’t sure whether defender Micky van de Ven will be ready to face Burnley on Friday.

The FA Cup takes centre stage this weekend as Tottenham Hotspur take on Burnley on Friday night.

Spurs have been in strong Premier League form of late, winning four of their last five games.

Micky van de Ven nearing Tottenham Hotspur return

Tottenham lost centre back Micky van de Ven to a hamstring injury in November.

The Dutchman pulled up during a sprint in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea and hasn’t been seen in a Spurs shirt since.

There were theories put forward that Van de Ven’s injury came as a result of being stood still during lengthy VAR checks and then having to go through high-intensity sprints.

Van de Ven’s absence has been painful for Spurs given their lack of depth behind him, but he is on his way back to fitness.

Postecoglou has now told Football London that Van de Ven has been involved in three training sessions as he ramps up his comeback.

Postecoglou still isn’t sure whether Van de Ven will be able to face Burnley tomorrow night though, seemingly waiting until Friday to make a final decision.

“Micky van de Ven has trained with us, he’s been involved for three sessions. Not sure about tomorrow and whether he’ll be involved or not,” said Postecoglou.

Van de Ven joined Tottenham in a £43million deal over the summer having impressed in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.

The 22-year-old has impressed with his pace and physicality in the Spurs back line, offering the ideal attributes for Postecoglou’s high line.

Van de Ven’s imminent return is great news for Tottenham and maybe he will be ready for a spot on the bench against Burnley.

Tottenham certainly need to add more depth at the back though, HITC Sport understands that Spurs are pushing to sign Genoa centre back Radu Dragusin.

Postecoglou would surely love to see that kind of deal materialise, especially if it coincides with Van de Ven’s return, with Spurs looking to secure a top-four place this season.
