Tottenham Hotspur are moving forward with talks over a possible deal for Romanian international defender Radu Dragusin, HITC Football understands.

A new defender has always been a priority for Spurs during this window and they have been looking at half-a-dozen different options including Jean-Clair Todibo, Lloyd Kelly, Ben Godfrey, Sebastian Caceres, Tosin Adarabioyo and Dragusin.

Sources have confirmed to HITC Football that talks are progressing between Spurs and the player’s Italian employers Genoa. The North London giants have accelerated negotiations as terms have been agreed in principle with the player’s camp.

The 21-year-old, who has been in Italy since he was 16 after being spotted by Juventus, is understood to be keen on a move to London – although there is interest from within Serie A with Milan and Roma keen on him.

Initial talks progressing

During initial talks it is believed intermediaries informed Spurs that a deal for Dragusin could be struck for around £20 million, but it is believed that has proven not to be the case and Genoa are looking for close to £25 million.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that central defensive reinforcements was their priority at the beginning of this window.

Tottenham are also ready to back Postecoglou with other investments as they pursue a forward and possibly a midfielder.

Former Celtic winger Jota is a player the club are actively pursuing and HITC Football understands that Spurs are in contact about a possible deal.

Al Ittihad are open to his exit having not used him in the league since his arrival from Scotland last summer and the player is anxious to leave.

Midfield options

A midfielder remains an option but looks likely to be determined by the possible sale of Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojberg this month.

Conor Gallagher is a player of interest to Tottenham and if a deal was possible sources have confirmed to HITC Football that they would pursue him, but we understand that the England international’s preference is to remain at Stamford Bridge.
