HITC Sport understands Burnley bid for Villa midfielder.
Aston Villa’s Ashley Westwood
Burnley are lining up a move for Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Burnley have held a long-term interest in Westwood and tried to sign him last summer with Sean Dyche a big admirer of the midfielder.
Villa managed to keep hold of Westwood in the summer despite their relegation from the Premier League, but the midfielder has come under fire from a section of the Villa fans this season.
International defender set for Villa medical
Villa boss Steve Bruce has added to his midfield options this month after bringing in Henri Lansbury from Nottingham Forest and Conor Hourihane from Barnsley so he might be open to selling Westwood if he gets a suitable offer for the defensive midfielder before Tuesday’s deadline.
Reading agree deal for Premier League midfielder
Dyche is in the market for midfielder reinforcements before the close of the transfer window after losing Dean Marney to a serious knee injury earlier this month and he sees Westwood as the ideal replacement for Marney.
Westwood joined Villa from Crewe Alexandra on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2012 and he has made over 150 appearances for the club.
