Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool and Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson in the summer transfer window.
Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has admitted to The Yorkshire Evening Post that he has found it tough in the Championship this season.
Jansson joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Torino in the summer of 2016 and, according to The Sun, will make it permanent in the summer for a transfer fee of £3.5 million deal.
The 26-year-old centre-back has been one of the best players for the Whites so far this season. The Sweden international has featured in 35 matches in all competitions for Leeds – 33 Championship games, one FA Cup fixture, and one League Cup match.
The former Malmo FF star has admitted that he has found it tough to play 35 games for the West Yorkshire outfit this campaign.
“It’s been a long season,” Jansson told The Yorkshire Evening Post. “I can’t talk for the other guys but for me, playing 35 games is tough.
“Maybe there’s a bit of pressure, maybe there are other reasons too. It’s difficult to say right now. We can only think about that after the season ends.”
Worry for Pontus Jansson suitors
Jansson’s performances for Leeds this season have seen him linked with moves to Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window.
According to Swedish outlet Kvallsposten, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the Sweden international defender. Sky Sports have credited Southampton with interest in Jansson (click here to read more).
The central defender’s comments about finding it tough to play 35 matches in the Championship would be worrying for Premier League clubs interested in him.
The Premier League is a much better league than the Championship and is of a much higher level. If Jansson is finding it tough in the second tier of English football, how would he cope in the top division?
Jansson has shown that he has the quality to play in the Premier League, but his comments could make the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham think again before making a move for him in the summer transfer window.
