Lukas Podolski has told Football Transfers that he expects Arsenal to table a bid that meets the £65million release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract. However, Podolski believes Arsenal will be one of many clubs interested.
Leeds-born Haaland, 21, has been in stunning form – needless to say. The hottest property in world football, one of the best strikers in the world is able to be bought for just £65million (Sun). All at the age of just 21.
The Norway international now has 82 goals in 86 games for Dortmund, and 25 in his 27 games this season. Manchester City are widely expected to sign the forward – with a deal worth £500,000 a week said to have been agreed.
Speaking about the possibility of Arsenal signing Haaland this summer, Podolski says he is just what the Gunners need – and expects Arsenal to make an offer for Mino Raiola’s client. But he thinks many will make a bid.
I’d be happy if he got an offer from Arsenal,” Podolski said. “Arsenal need a No.9. It would be great for the fans, for everyone at the club. Arsenal won’t be the only club who would send an offer to Borussia Dortmund.”
Podolski on Haaland: Arsenal have no chance of signing Dortmund ace
Haaland is already showing the kind of form that makes him elite. The cream of the crop, a top talent that should only be playing for the first bracket of clubs. In England, only two match that criteria.
Manchester City are widely expected to get him – while the other club he might consider, Liverpool, are not likely to smash their wage structure to get him. Bayern and Real Madrid are also possibilities for Haaland.
But Arsenal, who are fighting to finish in fourth, would be a sideways move for the Dortmund ace. He is worthy of playing for the best, because if he is not already, he will be the best. Gabriel Jesus is a target, instead.
