Well, Mikel Arteta is officially under serious pressure at Arsenal.
The 10-man Gunners were smashed 5-0 by Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium today.
As a result, Arsenal are rock bottom of the Premier League table after losing all three of their matches so far.
This international break comes at an ideal time for Arteta but the big question is, will he be around when the domestic calendar resumes in two weeks?
Even before Granit Xhaka’s red card in the first half, Arsenal were 2-0 down and a spanking was still very much on the cards.
And Darren Bent has claimed on Twitter that he’d love to see Antonio Conte replace Arteta at the Emirates Stadium.
Possible?
Well, it’s certainly possible because the former Chelsea boss – who won the Premier League title during his time in West London – is available after leaving Inter Milan this summer.
Not only that, but The Telegraph has reported this month that Arsenal are ‘likely’ to make an approach – if they decide to do away with Arteta.
But look, the reason why Arteta is even at Arsenal in the first place is because the suits in North London weren’t interested in an established coach to replace Unai Emery in 2019, considering that their former midfielder had never managed a football team before.
How do you go from hiring Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager to appointing one of the game’s best and most decorated coaches?
It’s possible they’ll make an approach for Conte, yes, but it seems unlikely they will go for him, not to mention the Italian might well pass up the offer, even if it did come.
