Alessandro Bastoni could now be handed the Inter Milan captaincy after turning down Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Inter are considering making central defender Bastoni the new captain after he turned down Tottenham among other clubs in the summer transfer window.
The Italy international wants to stay at Inter, and the former Italian champions are reportedly looking to reward him by making him the new club captain.
Bastoni’s agent said in June that the player is going to stay at Tottenham.

Sky Sports and 90min are among the media outlets who claimed last month interest from Tottenham in Bastoni – who is “mean” and has “got personality and a great future”, according to comments from former Inter defender Marco Materazzi in FCInterNews in April 2020.
Alessandro Bastoni blow for Tottenham Hotspur
In our view, Inter Milan reportedly looking to make Alessandro Bastoni the new club captain is a blow for Tottenham Hotspur.
It suggests that the former Italian champions simply do not want to sell the 23-year-old, who himself is happy to stay at San Siro.
This will be disappointing for Tottenham, who are so keen on Bastoni.
However, we have to say that it is very encouraging to see a player stay at his club and not push for a move away.
It is also nice to see the club reward the player for his loyalty by handing him the captain’s armband.
