Liverpool were rejected by Valentin Carboni back in 2020 as the Argentine instead opted to join Inter Milan.

Jürgen Klopp – according to Goal – was keen to sign the South American prodigy as he aimed to bring one of Europe’s brightest talents to Anfield, but his interest was snubbed.

Carboni has since flourished in Italy, and has now been named on a prestigious list which will surely make Liverpool feel even worse about missing out on his signature.

What’s the story?

Well, the 18-year-old has now been included on Goal‘s NXGN list, which names the 50 best wonderkids in football right now.

Carboni has made tremendous strides since moving to the San Siro in 2020.

The teenager has already made five Serie A appearances for Inter Milan this season – while also playing 14 minutes of Champions League action against Bayern Munich back in November.

Carboni – who Goal mention has been compared to Paulo Dybala – looks set to have a very bright future, and Liverpool could kick themselves for missing out should he go on to fulfil his vast potential.

Liverpool may not have been best destination for Carboni

In truth, Liverpool may not have been able to offer Carboni the chances he is currently receiving at Inter Milan.

Klopp’s attacking department is stacked with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, so it would have been difficult for the Argentine to play as much first-team football as he is currently getting at the San Siro.

Furthermore, his arrival may have also stunted the opportunities available to Liverpool’s own talent, such as Ben Doak and Fabio Carvalho.

Hopefully, Carboni continues to go from strength to strength at Inter Milan, and fulfil his immense potential.

Despite missing out on his services once already, Liverpool must continue to monitor this rising prospect.
