Liverpool and Newcastle were both rejected by Karim Adeyemi back in the summer as he opted to join Borussia Dortmund.

It was Bild who claimed that Liverpool wanted to sign the 21-year-old, whereas Sport1 revealed Newcastle were keen.

Eventually, Adeyemi swapped RB Salzburg for Borussia Dortmund in a £33m move, although things have not gone smoothly for the youngster in Germany.

What’s the story?

Well, Jürgen Klopp and Eddie Howe will probably feel as if they dodged a bullet, as the Germany international struggles in the Bundesliga.

Adeyemi has failed to score a single goal in 13 league appearances for Borussia Dortmund, which is worrying for the German giants given the amount of money invested in his arrival.

The Borussia Dortmund No.27 has scored one goal in five Champions League outings and one goal in two DFB-Pokal games this term, but he only has one assist to show for his efforts in the Bundesliga.

A lot was expected of Adeyemi this season after he scored 23 goals in all competitions last term, and while he still has plenty of time left to turn things around, there is no denying his start to life in Dortmund has been underwhelming.

Liverpool & Newcastle should keep an eye on Adeyemi

In our view, it is worth keeping tabs on Adeyemi as far as Klopp and Howe are concerned.

Sometimes, young prospects just need a different environment to settle down and show their talents.

Therefore, if Adeyemi continues to struggle in Germany and his price tag decreases significantly, it may be worth Liverpool or Newcastle taking a gamble on him if the fee represents a bargain.

Despite his struggles this term, the German is still a huge prospect, impressing in the Champions League last season while also winning four caps for Germany.

Hopefully, Adeyemi can turn things around at Borussia Dortmund, but if not, Klopp or Howe could benefit if they resurrect their interest.
