Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has raved about reported Leeds United and Celtic target Josh Doig in The Scottish Sun.

Gerrard’s Rangers faced Doig at the weekend, and the Liverpool legend was impressed by his duel with Nathan Patterson, saying that the Hibernian left-back has huge potential.

According to The Scottish Daily Mail (16/03, p76), Arsenal, Leeds and Manchester City are interested in signing the teenager from Hibernian in the summer of 2021, despite the player signing a new contract recently, as covered by HITC Sport.

Sky Sports reported in late January that Celtic are monitoring the Scottish youngster with a view to a move in the summer of 2021.

Gerrard told The Scottish Sun: “I was fascinated with that battle down our right-hand side. I thought Nathan was really good. I think Doig is a good player again with huge potential. Both lads put in a real strong shift.”

Encouraging for Leeds United and Celtic

Doig is a very talented and promising young left-back, and Gerrard’s comments on him will encourage Leeds and Celtic fans.

The Rangers boss was a great player himself and can spot a talent, and him being impressed by the 18-year-old shows how far the youngster can get in his career.

Leeds do need to sign a specialist left-back in the summer of 2021 even if Ezgjan Alioski signs a new contract.

As for Celtic, Grey Taylor is a good left-back, but he needs competition, as Diego Laxalt is only on loan from AC Milan.
