Leif Davis may decide his future lies away from Leeds United – for a while at least – with Bournemouth keen to take the Premier League youngster on loan for the 2021/22 season, as reported by The Mirror.

While Leeds opened the door for Junior Firpo to bounce back from two less-than-stellar years on the Barcelona bench, it seems that, at the same time, a window of opportunity slammed shut in the face of another attack-minded left-back.

Former Morecambe youngster Davis may have hoped the departure of madcap fans’ favourite Gjanni Alioski was the break he needed as he looks to force his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s match-day squad on a more regular basis.

The Newcastle-born 21-year-old made just two appearances as Leeds thundered their way into the top half of the Premier League, leaving shards from a so-called glass ceiling scattered across the floor.

But, rather than put their faith in Davis, Leeds have paid £13 million to bring Firpo to West Yorkshire, fighting off competition from the likes of Southampton, West Ham United and AC Milan along the way.

And, perhaps fearing Davis’s development would be stunted following another year watching from the sidelines, The Mirror reports Leeds are unlikely to stand in his way with Bournemouth offering a more regular role in the Championship.

However, the newspaper states a loan move is “not imminent”.

“Davis is a great player, full of future and skill,” Bielsa said in 2019, speaking in glowing terms about a player whose relentless work ethic hadn’t gone unnoticed at Thorpe Arch.

“But so far Alioski, (Barry) Douglas and (Stuart) Dallas are playing (ahead of him).

“Maybe for this reason, he is not in the starting XI – but all his tendencies are good. In my opinion, Davis was far from the first team in our first year and after he worked a lot in the team, with brilliant willing, a lot of effort, dedication, he gives everything.”
